Yamandu Costa is considered one of the most
important contemporary Brazilian guitarists.
Born in Passo Fundo, Rio Grande do Sul,
Brazil, Yamandu began his
guitar studies at the age of
seven with his father Algacir
Costa, band leader of “Os
Fronteiriços”. Later, he
perfected his technique with
Lucio Yanel, Argentine
virtuoso who was, during that
time, living in Brazil.
As one of the greatest
geniuses of Brazilian music,
Yamandu deserves the
highest praise for
being able to
gather huge
audiences around such an
intimate instrument such as
the acoustic guitar. On
stage, his impressive
performances
show that there
is no limit for creativity and that music is the
channel with which he chooses to express
his geniality. Yamandu is a guitar player,
composer and arranger
that does not fit only
one music style. He
mastered the 7-string
guitar and now uses his
amazing technique to
create his own musical
style. The name
Yamandu is an
indigenous name and
in tupi-guarani, the
native language of the
Brazilian indians,
means the precursor of
the waters of the world,
a well-deserved homage to this person who
is definitely way ahead of our time.
